Data Recovery...HELP!!!

Brothers,
I am in need of a fix to get back some data...here is the story:
I backed up my wife's records for her Daycare business on a 3.5 floppy disk (in an excel table). Well, we had a problem with the computers here at home that we need to reload that 3.5 disk's info but when I load it into my XP machines, the computer keeps wanting to format the disk (you can't bring up any files). However, when I bring up the disk in my (Ubuntu) Linux machine, I can see the file sitting on the disk but anytime I try to open the file, it keeps erroring. I can't even Copy or cut the file to move it to my Thumb Drive. Any Ideas????
Fraternally,
Lee
