Blue Lightning Program...

What do you think of the Masonic Blue Lightning One Day Program?
Some say...

....it's great because it stops candidates from losing interest. Allowing them to become Master Masons sooner will let them get involved sooner.

Others say...
....if it come too easy they will be lost as easily...Let members appreciate and learn from their time as a EA or FC then when they're MM's they will have the knowledge needed to live up to the obligation.

There is a lot that can be dun about it !!!!!!!!!
In order for this to happen there must be a change in the bylaws of the lodge and, this has to be accomplished only by a vote.If you don't want this to happen in your lodge then attend the meetings and, vote !
Things like this don't happen over night, they take time and, if you were not there for the vote then you loose !

I agree with you brother Robert, is masonry given cheaply? where is the quality of this kind of mass conferrals? the 3 degrees given for one day is like reviewing for the bar or board in just one day imbibing all the lessons in so short a time is unbelievable.Brother John just said it all, you can"t appreciate something you did not feel or experience...

In my lodge we do the degrees in three month increments. I think the problem is that when we have activites we don't include the cand. We need to start including them in our acivities and charge them to put together one for their new lodge. This not only raises money for the lodge but it also makes the brothers have a stronger bond.

The only activities our candidates are not involved in is they can not sit in a open lodge that is open in a degree that is higher than the degree they hold ie, a interred apprentice can not sit in a opened lodge of master masons.

when I was a steward I had the pleasure of coaching a candidate form the great state of Texas and, I was happy to learn that your degree work and, ours are very close

I was wondering if there was any one thing in particular,,activity or assignment that has worked in your lodges to involve a new MM that gently requires attendance at the very next lodge meeting after his 3rd is done--to keep momentum going--I am trying to come up with something (without reinventing the wheel)--but yet trying to keep the focus on the new MM-- we had a situation a while back with a new MM jumping into chair a committee that may have been a little too much for him too soon--he got bogged down and we lost him---he hasnt been back--anything out there to be mentioned or something that worked??

Hear in Mass as with each degree you must attend LOI Lodge of Instruction were each of your past degree work is gown over with you by a team of instructors, even a new MM must attend this.At that time most are asked as to what thay like to do in Lodge? Some go on into chair work were other just want to were the ring,it is tuff in Lodge for all new MM .Thats why we ask one of the Brother's to be a Brother to all newly made MM to show them the rope's with in the Lodge walk him around and give him a job.Not a make work type of job but something that has some form to it,set up a night of fellowship that will help him meet more brother's with in the Lodge.I know the night I was made a MM ,I was asked by my DD to be Marshall of LOI and I'm now going in to my 3rd year and loveing it.Out of the gate and doing fine and looking forword to being in the East with in the next 3 years not bad.But as for our Brother that has fallen by the wayside, give a call ask to come on back into Lodge fined a spot for him or ask what he like to do for the Lodge. You may fined out he has a project that no one every throught about and let him run with it.Make him feel the true warmth of the Lodge and that maybe he felt it was a bit over him the post he had, just give him a call and bring him back to Lodge

The only thing that I can think of is to have an occasional lodge and allow the new MMs to run the meeting with the aid of the current officers. This will give the new brothers a chance to see in which direction they may want to go. It also gives them a chance to learn the ritualistic opening. As mentioned aboved i to expierenced just being thrown into a sit right after I was raised. I became the junior deacon for my home lodge after being raised. I served there for 2 years and then was elected to the south (Junior Warden) station and this all happened before I reached the age of 21. But I was determined to learn all that I could about the order. When I started to work with the candidates I introduced them to each officer in th lodge and had them to explain to the new brother exactly what was going on and how each station works together for the benefit of the lodge.
